- Speciality Appointment: For many of the tropical diseases, western trained doctors might have said “there is no treatment, rest”, but in herbal and traditional medicine there are numerous options available. The use of herbal medicine is documented in the United Nations World Health Organisation database of traditional medicine, herbs and available uses.
- This appointment is suited for a traveller with an upcoming trip, wanting optimal health for travel. This appointment can also help a patient understand the computer generated printout from a Travel Dr specialist with more than $1000 worth of vaccination recommendations.
- The appointment is also suited for a return traveller whom has become unwell overseas. The appointment can be made for a condition that has already been diagnosed, or appointment can be made if it is undiagnosed. The doctors may have run tests but nothing was found. Note: It is difficult to get a diagnosis in return travellers as the reality of the testing panels is that no medical system in the world will pay for a testing panel to exclude all illnesses possibly acquired in a 12-month world trip to Africa, Asia, South America etc. An e.g. is a Brazilian living on the Gold Coast may return to Brazil and a few weeks later be suffering from joint pains, extreme fatigue, rash, fever, headaches. A doctor in Brazil is not going to be aware to test for Ross River fever, a local Australian mosquito viral infection.
- With naturopathy, nutrition, and herbal traditional medicine, the exact “diagnosis” is not as important as the way a patient is presenting, i.e. what are the actual symptoms, as symptom presentation lets us know which systems have been affected. Symptoms with a timeline of what happened in the person’s health and travel story, with other health history information, is often enough information to explain the state of health, and allows a “naturopathic treatment plan” to be created to improve and restore health. The treatment also helps other chronic symptoms they may have had before their holiday and an overall improvement in general health is also achieved.
- The appointment can also be used in diagnosed Travel/ Tropical Diseases. If you are on medications, the naturopathic treatment can be prescribed around the pharmaceutical drugs. Some medications have severe side effects, and may wish to be used as a last resort option.
